Art on the Streets : What inspires you?

This book is a collection of photographs taken in different locations over a number of years, which for me have a common thread. On our journey through city streets we are sometimes bombarded with images, layered up and unrelated, creating an ever changing canvas with the passage of time. Beyond the gallery walls the streets offer a place for artists to reach the public, a place to express opinions, advertise or simply deface and vandalise.

As an artist I’ve always been interested in mark making and our need for visual expression. Today it’s hard to escape graffiti in our urban environments and the various methods and mediums used in its creation. From rushed spray painted graffiti to intricate stencilled designs and scratching names into a cactus. This collection of photographs celebrates street art in all its variety.

Creating my new website : Was it worth it?

I’ve finally done it . Hurray !! Welcome to my new website. Its been a real learning curve and at times incredibly frustrating but I hope you agree it’s all been worth the effort.

My old website was looking really dated and was in desperate need of an upgrade. It was also managed by some one else and I really wanted to be able to take control of everything myself from the overall design and uploading of new artworks. I decided to go with Squarespace as I wanted to be able to offer and sell my work online ( something which I’ve never done before ). When I first started using Squarespace it took a while to figure out how to use the various templates and tools etc but like anything it was just a case of trial and error with a lot of frustration thrown in !! I’m not a particularly tech minded person but things do sink in after a few runs through !

I’ve been working as an artist for a good few years now and have built up a lot of work so this was an ideal opportunity to really focus in on what to include and what to leave out. I also needed to re photograph some pieces which proved very time consuming. As an artist I have an interest in using different media to express my ideas so have created an All Work section which categorises my work in themes/services or medium used. The shop feature is great and enables me to sell my creations direct to you. It’s great to be able to provide a personal touch when selling artwork. It makes the whole process far more rewarding for me and gives me an insight into my customers and their ideas.

I also love working on private commissions and creating bespoke artwork that meets the needs and expectations of my client. The journey from an idea in your head, visualised and turned into something real and tangible is both interesting and exciting.

So to answer my own question , Yes it was definitely worth it. I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved and feel that the simplicity of design showcases my artwork really well. I hope you like it too. Take a look and tell me what you think.
